The Nigerian Army says three unknown gunmen had been killed in a gun battle between the hoodlums and troops of Sector 5 of Exercise GOLDEN DAWN deployed in Enugu State.
The military nonetheless, stated that they lost an officer in the disagreement.
Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Public Family members officer, in a press observation claimed that the unknown gunmen had been to blame for the attack on a Nigerian Police checkpoint alongside Okija-Onitsha throughway on October 7, 2021.
He stated, “Troops of Sector 5 of Exercise GOLDEN DAWN deployed in Enugu, fill neutralised three unknown gunmen who attacked a Nigerian Police checkpoint alongside Okija-Onitsha throughway on 7 October 2021.
“The bold troops engaged and overwhelmed the gunmen with superior firepower, forcing them to wing the scene. Troops nonetheless gave them a sizzling pursuit, and engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.
“The 3 gunmen, who drove in 2 Autos ( a Hilux and Hummer bus), lastly succumbed to troops’ efficient firepower, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
“Troops also recovered one car and a pair of bikes, while conducting further exploitation of the final living for the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, a soldier paid the supreme tag, in the road of responsibility, for his nation.
“The Chief of Army Workers Commends the troops for the feat and urges them to preserve the momentum against all legal aspects working in the world. The COAS also sympathises with the family of the fallen hero and prays for the repose of his soul.”
