Brian Jean announced on Facebook Wednesday that he plans to behold the United Conservative Birthday party nomination in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, a seat left vacant when Laila Goodridge made the successful jump to federal politics within the 2021 election, becoming the Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray—Cool Lake.

Goodridge acquired her seat in a byelection when Jean resigned his seat in 2018, announcing he wanted to use extra time with his family.

Jean, 58, used to be the last chief of the Wildrose Birthday party when it merged with the Innovative Conservatives to compose the UCP.

Jean ran for management of the UCP but used to be defeated by fresh Premier Jason Kenney. In announcing his insist to flee within the byelection, Jean referenced Kenney’s waning reputation. 

“You spoke and I listened,” Jean wrote in his post. “Something ought to be done or Rachel Notley will settle on the subsequent election with an incredible majority. That might perchance be immoral for Alberta.”

Before coming into provincial politics, Jean served as MP for the Fort McMurray diagram from 2004 to 2014.

A date for the byelection in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche has now not but been announced.
